He stands two metres forty. He weighs a hundred and forty kilos. Grey skin, a black crest cut with a knife, and arms that could split a log in half.
And back home, he was the small one.
Axel is a Goliath of the Wandering Peak Nomad Clan, those who carry the blood of cloud giants. Among his own, he was always the weakling. The soft one. A disgrace to his family.
Worse still: he is the chief's son.
Tradition demands that every young one of the clan go out into the world to hunt a beast that proves their worth. Axel has been searching for two years. Two years on the road so that his father can, at last, be proud of him.
The problem is that Axel does not like hurting animals. Not without a reason. He has no passion for the tradition, but it is what is expected of him.
And the fact that he likes animals does not mean they like him. Pets never last with him. They always end up leaving.
He misses home. When it weighs on him, he strokes the protection rune his little brother, Greik, gave him. He cannot go back without passing the trial. He cannot let him down.
Now he walks a land where everything seems smaller. The trees are soft wood. The houses, flimsy. The people, short. Everything is very strange.
But the truly strange one is him.
When the moment calls for it, the blood of the first giants wakes, and Axel suddenly grows to four metres. He can vanish into the clouds and appear above anyone, stone maul first.
And when he gets angry, he falls into a fury not even he can control.
He hates goblins. Nobody in the clan taught him that.
They call him Axel the Swift. Nobody has ever asked him if he likes the nickname.

I told him he was huge. He answered that back home he was the small one. I still do not know which of us is right.
