Yole Jr. cast his first spell at four years old.
By accident. He wanted to grab a biscuit from a table that was too high. The biscuit went flying and landed on his father's head.
Nyxar said that child was going to be powerful. Nani said he was going to wreck the house.
They were both right.
Yole is a fourteen-year-old elf mage. And he doesn't see magic: he hears it.
To him, a spell sounds like a song. An enchanted door has a different note from a magical creature. And a curse sounds like an out-of-tune instrument, the kind that makes you grit your teeth.
That's why nothing magical gets past him.
He is truly clever. He can decipher an ancient inscription that would floor a scholar, and five minutes later ask if there's anything left to eat.
He loves maps. He loves mysteries. He carries a bow, a sword and more questions than fit in a single day.
He doesn't dream of being a famous mage.
He dreams of being the mage who protects his family.
Mini, who sings when there is fear. Katze, who at four already thinks he's a warrior. His parents, who have lost sight of him on more roads than they care to admit.
When any of them bleeds, Yole notices before anyone else.
And then the air begins to sound like a storm.

I asked him what a curse sounds like. He covered his ears before answering. Then he asked me if I'd had dinner.
