Geneva's parents hunted vampires.
They were good. Too good.
Vampires do not forget. One night they came to collect the debt, and they did not go after them. They went after their daughter.
They took her. They locked her up. They did things to her that are not told, for a time nobody could measure.
And when they grew tired of her, they turned her into what she hated most. And left her by the road.
A priest found her on the way, in a sacred grove. He did not ask what she was. He gave her food and a place to sleep.
There she learned to pray. To heal. To channel a little light through hands that were no longer entirely human.
Today Geneva is nineteen and a cleric. She heals whoever needs it. She helps whoever asks. She wants to do good.
She almost always manages.
But sometimes something crosses inside her. A look, a smell, a memory. And for a moment, the girl who prays steps aside and makes way for the other thing.
Then she comes back, and says sorry.
She never says sorry to the undead.
